Five Reasons Why You Should be Wearing SPF Every Day

Five Reasons Why You Should be Wearing SPF Every Day

When you live in the UK, the weather is so unpredictable that it’s not unusual to be wearing a coat and gloves in the morning and a summer dress in the afternoon. As a result of this, we don’t have a culture of sunscreen use as they do in countries where the sun is a little more of a guaranteed thing. However, there are several reasons that you should be wearing some form of SPF every single day, regardless of the weather. Here are five of them:

Our Sun is Stronger Than you Think

It really doesn’t need to be sunny for the sun’s rays to be harmful to your skin, and in fact, the sun’s rays are stronger than you think, even on overcast days. In fact, approximately 80% of UV rays still penetrate through clouds so it’s absolutely vital to apply an SPF all-year round. Using a facial sunscreen, even if your body is bundled into layers of clothes, is really important for protecting you from the sun’s harmful rays.

Reducing Wrinkles

Sunscreen isn’t the greasy, awkward formula that many of us think of, and it’s much nicer to wear underneath make-up than it was in the past. In fact, many facial products are multi-functional and not only protect you from further sun damage, but also help to reverse wrinkles. Decleor Protective Anti-Wrinkle Cream SPF30 Face is designed for daily use and offers double protection for the face with the DNA Protection Complex and UVA/UVB filters.

There’s a Formula for Everyone

In the past, people who suffered with oily skin or a tendency to break out would avoid sunscreen because it was too greasy for their skin. However, sunscreen technology has come on leaps and bounds and there are now formulas for every skin type. If you have oily or acne-prone skin, Dermalogica Matte Moisturiser SPF15 could be perfect for you.

Sun Damage is Cumulative

A lot of people think that once sunburn has healed, their skin is back to normal, but actually sun damage has a cumulative effect and gets worse over time. Every exposure contributes to possible damage at the cellular level. Spare your skin tomorrow and wear your sunscreen today.

Preventing Hyperpigmentation

We all know that sun damage causes wrinkles and other signs of ageing, but a lot of people forget that it can also cause hyperpigmentation and areas of discolouration on the skin. Wearing sunscreen daily will protect you from this and will ensure than your skin tone stays even. Dermalogica Prisma Protect SPF30 will also prevent future signs of skin damage.

Can You Actually Get Rid of Stretch Marks?

We’ve written in the past about stretch marks and what can cause them, but with bikini season just around the corner, we thought we’d take another look at stretch marks, what they are, what causes them and if it’s really possible to get rid of them altogether.

What Are Stretch Marks?

According to Medical News Today “Stretch marks are long, narrow streaks, stripes, or lines that develop on the skin. They occur when the skin is suddenly stretched and are extremely common. Anyone can develop stretch marks, although they tend to affect more women than men. They can occur on a range of body parts, including the stomach, thighs, hips, breasts, upper arms, and lower back.”

What Causes Them?

When your skin is stretched too far or grows too fast, the fibers that are there to keep it together are not able to work fast enough to keep up. Therefore, portions of your skin tear and leave these grooves or streaks that we commonly know as stretch marks. Pregnancy and weight gain are the most common causes.

It’s important to note that stretch marks which appear without any apparent cause can be a side-effect of Cushing’s Disease. If you have recently developed stretch marks without gaining weight or becoming pregnant, it’s a good idea to get checked by your GP.

Is There Anything You Can Do About Them?

Well, there’s good news and there’s bad news. Stretch marks usually leave at least some sort of visible mark on the skin, but it is possible to reduce their appearance so that they’re barely noticeable. The first step to stretch mark care is to exfoliate the skin – this won’t get rid of the stretch marks by itself, but it will improve absorption of moisturiser, and keeping the are well hydrated is the next important step.

Which Products Do We Recommend?

For exfoliating the area, something gentle but effective such as Decleor 1000 Grains Body Exfoliator would work well as l turns into an oil during massage for easy application, and then turns into a milk upon contact with water for quick rinsing. Skin is left feeling softer, smoother and refined.

To enrich the skin and reduce the appearance of stretch marks, Decleor Cica Botanic Oil contains a unique blend of nine botanical oils to reduce existing stretch marks and help prevent new ones. The hero ingredient, bourrache botanical oil has one of the highest amounts of GLA; a fatty acid which has been shown to correct deficiencies in skin lipids and increase skin’s elasticity.

The Health Benefits of Massage

The Health Benefits of Massage

For many of us, going for regular massages either isn’t in our budgets, or isn’t something we really have time to do. However, there are several clinically proven benefits of massage, which affect the whole body. Making time for a massage could make a huge difference to your health and well-being, so even if you can’t make it to a professional, learning some self-massage skills could benefit you hugely. Here are just five of the proven benefits:

Increased Circulation

One of the main benefits of massage is that it can help to increase circulation, especially for the face. Massage stimulates the lymphatic system which lies just beneath the skin, encouraging built-up fluid to pass through the system more effectively, helping you to get rid of puffiness and increase the flow of oxygenated blood to the skin.

Increases Collagen Production

As well as being a natural way to relieve stress, facial massages are also a natural beauty treatment. Facial massage stimulates the production of collagen and blood in the skin. Therefore regular sessions will work to tighten and lift your facial muscles, helping to prevent sagging and giving you a more youthful glow. A wonderful holistic alternative to invasive cosmetic treatments!

Relieves Stress

Although it may feel as though the effects of stress are mostly mental, the physical effects of stress can also be powerful. Stress has been shown to increase certain hormones which can increse the signs of ageing, and even on a more tangible level, frowning can exacerbate the development of wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes, mouth and forehead.

Helps Prevent Headaches

Headaches can have many causes, from stress and tension to blocked sinuses and facial massage can help to relieve many of these triggers. When you experience a headache, you can perform a short but effective facial massage by gently pushing on the various pressure points. Just as this relieves stress, it also relieves the symptoms of stress, including headaches.

Banishes dark Circles

Dark circles are another issue which can have multiple causes, but fluid build up is the main factor and this can  be greatly improved with facial massage. Gently massaging the under-eye area will help to disperse a build-up of fluid and improve the look of the under-eye area greatly.
