This is the time of year when frizzy hair is harder to control than ever. The damp air, central heating and constant temperature changes can play havoc with hair which already has a tendency towards frizz. With this in mind, we thought we’d give you a few tips to try to help you fight the frizz and get smoother, sleeker hair all year round.
Wash Less
Unless you’re the sort of person who gets greasy roots on a daily basis, you probably don’t need to wash your hair quite as often as you currently do it. Condition More
While washing your hair too much is a no-no for frizzy locks, conditioning MORE should be a priority. Hold Off the Heat
Heat styling may help to make your hair look sleek straight after you’ve done it, but using too much heat, courtesy of straighteners or tongs, can dehydrate and damage your hair, causing damage over time that will be almost impossible to repair. Try to turn down the heat on your electrical stylers (most people use them at top whack when they really don’t need to be that hot) and use a heat protective spray or serum before every use.
Change Your Brush
When you’re prone to frizz, you need to think about the type of hairbrush you use. Something wide and flat will give you better smoothing power, and opting for something with bristles made of natural fibres will reduce the amount of static you create when you brush you hair, therefore stopping the wild fly-aways from becoming uncontrollable.
Wear a Silk Scarf to Bed
If you’re still using cotton bedding, there’s a good chance that this is exacerbating your frizz as cotton will literally absorb the natural oils from your hair as you sleep. If you don’t fancy the expense of replacing all of your pillow cases with silk ones, try wrapping your hair with a silk scarf before you go to bed. It will cut down on static caused by friction and will allow the natural oils to remain in your hair, weighing it down and keeping it hydrated.
