Although you might find it a bit of a cliche, January is the most popular time of the year to start a new habit, be it taking up a new hobby, looking after your health and wellbeing or simply instigating a new way of doing something. For us, here at Pure Beauty, we often hear our clients talk about wanting to start doing a better job of looking after their skin and complexion, so with this in mind, we thought we’d put together a little guide to products for each skin type which would be a great addition to your new skincare routine for 2023:
Dry Skin
Dry skin is often at its worst at this time of year as the weather is usually very cold but also very dry, which can make an already dry complexion feel tight and uncomfortable. We’d recommend starting with Elemis Sensitive Cleansing Wash to give you clean skin with no irritation, followed by Dermalogica Melting Moisture Masque, which is an extremely moisturising masque that transforms from balm to oil to help restore dry skin. Finally, Decleor Antidote Serum will strengthen the skin’s barrier and protect it from daily aggressions, such as pollution.
Oily Skin
Oily skin usually requires very specific products so as not to exacerbate any sebum production. To ensure you start with a super clean base, we’d suggest using Dermalogica Active Clay Cleanser, which is a dual-action, mineral-rich clay and charcoal formula that actively cleanses and purifies to help balance oily skin. We’d follow this with Decleor Rosemary White Clay Daily Care to reduce the excess of sebum, blackheads and breakouts. We also suggest keeping on hand some Decleor Rosemary Targeted Solution, an anti imperfection concentrate enriched with Rosemary essential oil to prevent and treat breakouts.
Normal Skin
If you’re lucky enough to have normal skin, you’ve probably got the widest variety of products available to you. Obviously, we’d suggest you stick to the ‘cleanse, tone, moisturise’ matra using Evolve Organic Beauty Daily Detox Facial Wash, followed by Murad Essential-C Toner and finishing with Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream. However, we’d also stress the importance of using a daily sunscreen, such as Elemis Daily Defence Shield SPF30.
Ageing Skin
The key to caring for ageing skin is ensuring you keep collagen production at the forefront of your approach. That means that cleansing should be done using something like Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm and moisture should come courtesy of Murad Rapid Collagen Infusion. You would also benefit greatly from adding a night cream into your daily routine, such as Medik8 Advanced Night Restore.
Combination Skin
If you have combination skin, this means that you probably deal with areas of dryness, oiliness, possibly some breakouts and maybe even areas where the signs of ageing are showing, which can make using just one product difficult. Evolve Organic Beauty Daily Detox Facial Wash is a delicately foaming facial wash to detoxify and rebalance normal to combination skin, which is a good place to start. We’d follow this with SkinCeuticals Blemish + Age Defence Serum, which is suitable for oily, blemish-prone, or ageing skin.
