According to some experts, we can have as many as one million pores per square inch of skin. Put into this context, the few enlarged or open pores most people have in their skin can seem rather insignificant and yet they can be difficult to conceal and have an adverse effect on the complexion’s appearance.
There may be various contributing factors when pores become enlarged and dilated; genetics and age can play a part in their appearance, as can excessive sebum production and acne. As pores become congested, they stretch to accommodate the mixture of dead skin cells and sebum. Once they have become enlarged, it is not really possible to permanently shrink them again.
The right skincare routine can, however, tighten the pores and reduce their size and make them less visible. Effective cleansing and exfoliation will help to reduce the likelihood of enlarged pores, while skincare products containing ingredients designed to strengthen the skin (restoring collagen and elastin) will also help to improve the appearance of enlarged pores.
If you are struggling to conceal the enlarged pores on your face, take a good look at your skincare routine and the products you are using and make sure you avoid exposure to the sun. Take the time to use a face masque such as Dermalogica’s Skin Refining Masque to tighten and improve the skin’s texture for an added boost.
