Just because your skin is clear of blemishes, blotches and spots doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s clean. In fact it’s probably much less clean than you think. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not the type of skin that you have which causes spots and breakouts it’s actually the cleanliness of your skin. If you don’t make an effort to clean your skin properly then it doesn’t matter how clear your skin is now because sooner or later your luck will run out and you will get spots.
Spots are caused because bacteria builds up in the pores and if it’s not removed they become blocked and infected causing spots and breakouts. The only way to prevent spots from becoming a problem is to ensure that your skin is cleaned thoroughly at the end of each day and although that might sound like a tedious task it’s actually not difficult at all.
First you should wash your face with warm – not hot – water and then apply a cleanser which has been especially formulated for your skin type. Dermalogica’s Special Cleansing Gel for example is suitable for all skin types which means it’ll work wonders on any type of skin.
Once you’ve rinsed the cleanser away make sure you then ensure that your pores are closed – by rinsing it with cold water – as this will make it much harder for dirt to get in there and then you should moisturise.
Once your face has dried you should moisturise with a moisturiser that’s suitable for your skin. The majority of products will illustrate which skin types they’re suitable for on their packet but if you’re unsure of your skin type then rely on products that are suitable for all skin types.
