Are your fine lines signs of age or dehydration?

Dermalogica MoisturisersMany of us dread the appearance of fine lines on our faces; we associate those creases around the eyes or the mouth with the onset of ageing, as the skin begins to lose elasticity and volume. If you have noticed those lines on your own complexion, think about what exactly may be causing them before you start investing in ant-ageing products.

One reason for the appearance of fine lines is a lack of moisture in the skin. As the skin dries out, it loses moisture and volume and lines begin to form. You need to make sure therefore, that your skin is adequately hydrated before you start panicking about premature ageing.

The first step is to make sure you are drinking enough water. We all know we should be drinking 8 glasses a day, but can you say hand on heart that you do? You also need to avoid factors that contribute to dehydration, namely: caffeine and alcohol and hot environments. Smoking can also leave the skin gasping for a drink.

Then you need to take a look at the moisturisers you use:

• Use a lightweight, oil-free moisturiser every morning in order to restore moisture levels before you face the day ahead. Choosing one with added sun block will also protect your skin from the drying effects of the sun.

• Carry Antioxidant HydraMist with you and spray on during the day for intense hydration on the go.

• Go for a richer, more intense moisturiser at night that can repair any damage sustained during the day while providing a moisture boost to get you through the night.

• Use a moisture-boosting masque a couple of times a week for a restorative facial treatment.
As the skin is rehydrated, it will become ‘plumper’ and fine lines should be smoothed away, leaving you with great-looking skin.
