Uneven skin tone, or hyper pigmentation, is the result of an over production of melanin which gives skin and hair its colour and helps protect skin against damaging UV light. Over production of melanin can be caused by excessive sun exposure, hormones or scarring which leads to a mottled, uneven skin tone.
